Course Description
Our Museology programme prepares students extensively for working in the dynamic museum sector. The programme in German combines hands-on experience of all the different areas of modern museum work and goes beyond the classical museum functions of collecting, exhibiting, interpreting, studying and conserving.
In the first two semesters, students learn about inventories and documentation as well as fundamental management tools. Additionally, the basics of Art History and Cultural History are taught in order to provide necessary context.
The third and fourth semesters are more heavily focused on using the acquired skills in practical settings. Education in the various types of collections and academic disciplines continues. Students also learn more about communication strategies in museum education, creative exhibition making and PR as well as the fundamentals of visitor researching. Furthermore, the compulsory language course "English for Museum Studies" is promoting the international orientation of the program.
Within the fifth semester of their studies it is mandatory for students to choose three specialisation courses from the following list: Cultural Economy, Publications, Digital Media, Modern Materials, Digitalization or Provenance Research. The aforementioned specialisation semester is followed by the sixth semester in which students complete their Bachelor thesis.
