Practical projects

In two compulsory practical projects in the third and fourth semesters you are working either in a museum/ another cultural institution or at HTW for a full day every second week.

In semester three you inventory and document objects. In semester four the focus is more on presentation and impartation. Some projects are designed as block courses (full time, 14 days).

Organization of the practical projects

The projects are presented by the lecturer at the beginning of the semester. Supervision is provided by our colleagues in the corresponding institutions. The practical projects end with the writing of a report and a presentation of the results.

The following institutions offer practical projects on a regular basis:

A selection of past and ongoing projects:

2016 - Revisiting the exhibition “Chronographia” by Gülsün Karamustafa at Hamburger Bahnhof Berlin

The course is a cooperation between HTW and SMB, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Through the exhibition that focuses on migration, pop culture and gender, Students are introduced to the theories of a new, critical museology. They also get to know the Revisiting Collections Toolkit and in 1-2 focus group discussions develop means of interpretation of the exhibition for a diverse audience.

2016 - “Portal of contemporary history” in Berlin-Schöneberg

Students developed a communication concept for the exhibition "Portal of contemporary history" in Café Haberland, a café, exhibition and meeting space in Berlin Schöneberg. Students analyzed the information supply (sign posting system, general signage, internet presence) and the educational program (media, events and programs for schools) and, based on their findings, developed and tested their ideas for improvement on site. They created a new Facebook presence for Café Haberland and a trail for kids and chaperones through the quarter.
